Located in the heart of Scotland and home to two unique attractions, The Kelpies and the Falkirk wheel.

The Kelpies is the largest equine sculpture in the world and is an incredible sight.

Two large horse heads emerge from the ground as if trying to break out from underneath.

The Kelpies truly are a sculptural masterpiece and set within a family-orientated park offering nice walks. There is also a café and shop on site to warm up in the colder months.

The Falkirk Wheel links two canals together in the most inspiring way.

The wheel is situated in a great location offering boat trips, bike hire, Segway tours as well as beautiful country walks, there really is something to fit every taste.

Both attractions are well worth a visit and most importantly Falkirk offers the perfect location to stay when on a trip to Scotland as you are in perfect reach of the great cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Sometimes staying within city centre locations can be more expensive and offer a less diverse trip, with only the city hustle and bustle to offer.

I decided when on a trip to Edinburgh I would stay in the superb the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa.

The hotel offers a perfect location away from the hustle and bustle of the cities yet with great links to motorways.

As we arrived I was excited to get checked in and enjoy the hotel room.

I have stayed in Macdonald hotels before and hold them in high regard as the standard is always high regardless of the location.

Immediately I was impressed with the building stone brick walls with a conservatory and visible spa, quite beautiful.

Within a short time of arriving I was checked in and settling in to our room. A large, comfortable bed dominated the room with all the usual accessories. The bathroom was perfectly modern and refined.

Having being out for most of the day – and it being December – we were quite cold and so took full advantage of the room and spa.

The spa is superb, offering a wide range of facilities including a large serene pool with views over the grounds.

After a relaxing afternoon, it was time to prepare for tea. I was so excited to eat at the Scottish Steakhouse, I have eaten at the restaurant before but at different locations and the meal was simply the best steak I had ever eaten. I was not disappointed!

As we sat in the restaurant under the glass windows we were served by very polite staff, who provided us with a variety of fresh bread, and starters of superfood salad as well as BBQ Ribs, delectable!

That was followed swiftly by mains of a fillet steak and a sirloin, we both chose to have the chunky chips and peppercorn sauce. It was delicious and I still stick to my initial thoughts – The Scottish Steakhouse really does serve the most perfectly-cooked steak.

Stomachs full we retired from the restaurant to the bar area, dark wooden floors and tartan chairs, it’s such a nice place to unwind in comfort.

I thoroughly enjoyed my evening which was only complimented more by a restful night’s sleep.

In the morning, we headed back to the restaurant for breakfast. The most important and what I think reassuring point about the produce used for breakfast is it is all free range and locally sourced!

As a conscious eater, I am always aware of making better choices and sometimes find it difficult to find where the food I am enjoying comes from and under what circumstances it was raised, so to speak.

The MacDonald hotels are clear and precise in their menu; I can always enjoy my food better when I can feel morally assured.

Overall I had the most relaxed time here and, as we were so close to Edinburgh, drove straight there after our stay.

Edinburgh is, in my opinion, one of the greatest cities in the world steeped in history, culture and architecture.

A magical place which can only really be fully appreciated by experiencing it yourself, from cathedrals to castle! Old and new there is something for everyone!
